When did you start working for MFC? December 19th, 2017

Tell us a little about yourself:
I have spent half my life in Charleston, and love everything the Holy City has to offer but I will never pass up an excuse to travel. My grandparents instilled a love of travel and adventure in me at an early age and I am very grateful to them for doing so.

Last August, I completed a different kind of adventure and received my MBA from USC’s Darla Moore School of Business. Before coming on board at MFC, I was a brand and communications manager in the alcohol beverage industry. The world of finance is quite a new adventure from beverage marketing!

Beyond my passion for travel, marketing, and business strategy, I love to cook with my husband, Eric Sykes, and our boxer/bulldog Amelia. Amelia runs quality control in our kitchen, taste testing all the pup-safe veggies to make sure we only use the finest ingredients.

I am happy many of my new colleagues share my love and appreciation for good wine, food, and travel. I am excited for all the new adventures that await me at MFC!

What do you like best about working for MFC? The camaraderie of the culture here is outstanding. The relationships built not only among the employees but with the clients can make anyone who walks through the front door feel like family.

What is one thing at work you can’t do without? I find music helps me focus. Mostly I listen to classical to keep me on track but every now and then a dose of classic rock or jazz can really get the brain juices flowing.

Last place you traveled and what did you do there? I just spent Presidents Day Weekend in Asheville, NC. I love the mountains for a quick weekend getaway.

What is the nerdiest thing you do in your free time? I think it depends on who you ask. My husband would say it’s how I’m always dragging him to an art or history museum whenever we have free time. Then again, he introduced me to comic books, of now which we have a healthy collection, so he’s not really one to talk.

Recipe for your favorite dish or cocktail?
Since spring is on the way, here’s one of my favorites: Blushing Whiskey Sour
Ingredients
3 blackberries
2 oz Simple Lemon Syrup
1 oz Whiskey
Crushed Ice
Instructions
Add all ingredients to shaker & shake until blackberries start to break up to give a blush color.
Strain into a glass packed with fresh ice & garnish with additional blackberries. Enjoy!

What book are you currently reading? For fun, two right now, Dictionary of the Khazars by Milorad Pavic and Red Sky at Noon by Simon Sebag Montefiore.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be? It’s a draw between teleportation for cheap travel or telekinesis. The latter would be great to have in the kitchen, reading or the greatest struggle of all: carrying all the groceries in the house in one trip.

Best piece of advice? My father told me when people are offering advice, always listen and listen to everyone, but only take the best advice that applies to your situation.
